Gaziantep Castle is one of the most beautiful examples of surviving castles in Turkey. It is located in the city center, on the southern edge of the Alleben Stream, on a hill at an altitude of approximately 25 m that attracts the attention of almost everyone with its magnificence and majesty, as well as its history that is kept like a secret.

Although there is no definitive information about when and by whom the Gaziantep Castle was built, it is known that it was built on a mound dating back 6000 years to the chalcolithic period, and that there was a small city called “Theban” around the castle in the II-III centuries AD.

In the years following the Byzantine period, especially the Mamluks, Dulkadiroğulları and Ottomans repaired the castle from time to time as needed and put repair inscriptions regarding this. The castle was overhauled for the second time in 1481 by the Egyptian Sultan Kayitbay. From the inscription on the main gate, it is understood that the main gate and the towers on both sides of the castle bridge were rebuilt by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1557 during the Ottoman Empire.

Once you enter the main castle gate, there are two roads leading into the interior and top of the castle. The upper part of the castle can be reached from the road opening to the left. From the road continuing towards the inner parts; The gallery, corridor and castle rooms can be reached. There is a water source under the main mass of the castle.

It is a very beautiful place, but it is sad that the history has been destroyed so much (due to the earthquake). There were renovation works. I hope that when I come again, I will have a much nicer visit.
