The location of the Mevlana Dervish Lodge, which is used as a museum today, was the Rose Garden of the Seljuk Palace, and the garden was gifted to Mevlana’s father, Sultanü’l-Ulemâ Bâhaeddin Veled, by Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad.  When Sultanü’l-Ulemâ died on January 12, 1231, he was buried in his current place in the tomb. This burial is the first burial in the rose garden. After the death of Sultanü’l-Ulema, those who loved him applied to Mevlana and said that they wanted to have a mausoleum built over his father’s grave, but Mevlana rejected this request, saying “What could be a better mausoleum than the dome of the sky?”

The specialized library in the museum was founded by Postnişin Mehmed Saîd Hemdem Çelebi in 1854.
