Bandırma Ship, which played an important role in the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, was built in Glasgow in 1878 under the name “Trocadero” and later carried cargo under the name Kymi for many years. The ship, which sank on December 12, 1891, was removed and repaired and refloated in the same year.

After bringing Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades to Samsun on May 19, 1919, it continued its postal services and was decommissioned by the “Turkish Navigation Administration” in 1924. The ship, which was sold to İlhami Söke in 1925, was dismantled by the same person in the Golden Horn within 4 months. It was rebuilt using the original drawings of the ship as a reference and was converted into a museum by Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, which took over the usage rights and operation of Bandırma Ferry on 07 February 2005 and was opened to visitors on 19 May 2006.
