Although the construction date of Söğüt Ertuğrul Gazi Museum is not known exactly, it is known that it was built as a “winding house” by the mayor Memiş Ağa in the early 1900s. The building, which draws attention with its wooden workmanship, has two round-arched doors side by side on the front facade, a vertical rectangular window on the two side walls and triangular foreheads on top. It has a wooden hipped roof and the roof is covered with Turkish style tiles.

In the Museum, which was restored with the architecture of an old Turkish house and opened in 2001, ethnographic artifacts and items belonging to the Yoruks living in Söğüt and its surroundings are exhibited. The museum also includes banners, old clothing and suits, hand-woven rugs and carpets, weapons, measuring and weighing instruments, towels and purses, and archaeological artifacts (coins from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, earthenware vessels from the Roman period).

Entrance to the museum, located in a small, beautiful, two-storey historical building, is free. It closes at 17:00. We arrived at the last minute and the friend on duty was just closing the door. Thanks to him, he opened it again for us and allowed us to wander around. The bust of Ertuğrul Gazi is exhibited on the ground floor, and the Turkish clothes of the time, the Flag, some weapons and a few tools are exhibited on the upper floor. All are very well preserved and the museum is beautifully organized. There isn’t much but it’s worth seeing. The museum is on the street, there is no parking.
