The Burdur Museum building was inspired by the architecture of the Ottoman Pirkulzade Library, which remained from the madrasah in the garden of the museum.

Popular museum with archaeological finds from statues to pottery and a cafeteria and gift shop.

Burdur Museum, founded in 1956 and reorganized in 2001, is one of the richest museums in Turkey, with more than 60 thousand cultural assets, including those recovered from the excavations of Hacılar, Kuruçay, Höyücek Mounds, Boubon, Kibyra and Sagalassos, and those gained through confiscation and purchase.

Burdur Museum received the “Museum Worth Visiting” award in 2008. It is possible to see unique examples from the Neolithic Age to the present day.

The museum consists of three parts. On the upper floor, there are finds from the Neolithic and Early Chalcolithic Ages and finds from the Old Bronze Age. The second part, the ground floor, is arranged in three sections. The first section includes the findings unearthed during the excavations in the Ancient City of Sagalassos. Giant statues of Emperor Hadriani and Marcus Auralius, two of Rome’s best emperors, are exhibited here.

There are many archaeological artifacts in Burdur museum. As far as I understand, most of these works come from the Sagalassos excavations. On the other hand, the museum contains artifacts from the Roman Empire and busts and statues of the emperors of the period.

In 2008, the capacity of the museum was increased by adding an addition to the first building. The museum tour takes approximately 44 minutes.

Some very well preserved statues attract attention. Parts of the statues of Emperor Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius, reaching 5 meters in height, are in the museum.

Beautiful but small. place

5.0/ 5

It is beautiful but small. This museum is very inadequate for a place like Burdur, which has several large ancient cities. This is obvious. They said that there are many, many artifacts exhibited in their warehouses. Despite this, it is definitely worth visiting. We recommend it.

Beautiful museum

5.0/ 5

There are many archaeological artifacts in Burdur museum. As far as I understand, most of these works come from the Sagalassos excavations. On the other hand, the museum contains artifacts from the Roman Empire and busts and statues of the emperors of the period. There are nice souvenirs in the souvenir vending machine at the entrance of the museum. I used a museum card to enter the museum. Apart from that, you can also enter by paying cash. However, I recommend you get a museum card. In this way, you can use this card for museums and historical sites for 1 year and make trips affordable. The building of the museum, a historical stone building, is very beautiful in terms of architecture. Frankly, I liked it. There is information that a part of the building was previously used as a meander. In 2008, the capacity of the museum was increased by adding an addition to the first building. The museum tour takes approximately 44 minutes. I didn’t wait in line at the entrance
