According to the records in the Hurufat Books, this mosque was built by “Hacı Ali Bin Mehmet Ağa”, “Çalık Hacı Ali”. In its courtyard with a three-door entrance, there are a minaret, madrasah cells, a well with stone bracelets and the tombs said to belong to Çalık Mehmet Ağa, the son of Hacı Ali, who built the mosque, and his wife. Çalık Mosque, which has a single nave and a two-domed harim running parallel to the qibla, is a rectangular planned building with a wooden roof and six pointed arches, free at the bottom and supported by a recessed pillar. The narthex has three arches; these ride on free-stacked piers. From here, the harim is entered through a low arched door; There are two rectangular windows with flat frames and triangular pediments on both sides of the door.

The front of the mihrab is domed, and two large triangles were used for the transitions to the dome. The weight of the high, round-drummed dome was placed on the arches of the vaults (barrel and pointed arches) and the recessed legs. The unique one of the two mihrabs is located on the axis of the door opening to the sanctuary from the old wing of the narthex. This place, which is used as a closet today, is a pointed arched niche with a console in the upper right and left corners. When the harim was expanded with repairs, this original mihrab was canceled; The window in the middle of both sections was closed and arranged in the form of a mihrab. The base of the minaret, which is adjacent to the southwestern corner of the harim on the right side of the courtyard, has a square plan and its upper part is chamfered. The minaret, which has two belts on its polygonal body, has a single balcony. The balcony has six muqarnas. There are star-shaped motifs on the railings, embroidered with openwork technique. Its honeycomb is cylindrical and its cone is conical and made of stone. The most decorated aspect of Çalık Mosque is its minaret under the balcony – although a significant part of its tiles have fallen off – and the portal in the southwest direction. In addition to the sequential use of black and yellow stones, octagonal and zigzag motifs are the main eye-catching decorations.

There are many historical places in Istanbul

5.0/ 5

Although the water supply of many historical fountains in Istanbul is cut off, it is a historical fountain whose water still flows and adds color to our neighborhood. I hope it continues to be given the necessary importance so that no one destroys it or damages its inscription.
