The Legend of the Historical Murat Bridge
According to the legend told by the local people, the bridge was built by a rich Armenian girl, and when she went to see the bridge during its construction, she got angry when she saw that a master working on the bridge was constantly lighting a match where he was sitting. When the master said to the girl, “You are so stingy,” the Armenian girl said, “I will bury a pot of gold at the foot of the bridge to prove that I am not stingy.”
Following this legend, the bridge was destroyed many times in order to find the buried pot of gold, and even its middle legs were demolished using explosives. With the subsequent restoration work and security measures, the bridge returned to its old days.
