Fascinating historic tower with expansive ocean views, cafe and observation deck.
It is an elevator tower that houses two elevators between Mithatpaşa Street and Nihat Bey Street. Due to the 50 meter elevation difference between the streets, the historical elevator, which can be climbed with 155 steps between the districts and to facilitate transportation, was built by the Jewish businessman “Nesim Levi” in 1907.
The elevator tower has 3 floors. The lower floor of the elevator in World War I; Casino – middle floor; Photography room – upper floor; It was used as a cinema. The elevator has been rented to various people over time.
It was sold to Şerif Remzi Reyent in 1942. He is the businessman who introduced figs to the world. Since a dispute arose between Izmir Municipality and Şerif Remzi Reyent in 1960, the elevator was closed and continued to be used as a warehouse. Şerif Remzi Reyent passed away in 1973 and the elevator was left abandoned to its fate. It was donated to Izmir Municipality by Ayla Ökmen, the niece of Şerif Remzi Reyent.
The elevator, which has been standing tall for 105 years, continues to function today and attracts tourists with its unique view as a cafe, bar and restaurant and offers a unique view of Izmir.

Today, the elevator is operational and the upper floor serves with a cafeteria and a small viewing balcony. The elevator is accessed from the street whose official name is “Dario Moreno”, popularly known as “Elevator Cul-de-sac”. The tower rises in brick after two sections of stone. There is a wooden balcony supported on iron consoles where the building reaches Şehit Nihatbey Street. From this balcony, the city of Izmir can be viewed from a bird’s eye view.
