Partially ruined medieval castle on a hill with a café and panoramic city views.

The castle is built on an area of 480 square meters in the southwest of the city center. It consists of inner and lower castles. It is thought that the inner castle was built during the reign of Justinian I (527-565) and the lower castle was built in the 13th century. The surroundings of the castle are operated as a tea garden with landscaping. It is one of the ideal points in the city center to watch the city. The castle, which does not have a proper plan, is built on a natural hill with a height of 150 meters. The entrance gate of the inner castle, built of smooth cut stone and rubble stone, is in the east. It has five towers with a semicircular plan. Lower Castle; While it was surrounded by walls extending from the inner castle towards the northeast and northwest directions and reaching the sea, a part of the western walls and some tower ruins remain today. The restoration works carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism are still continuing.

There are many castles throughout the city, thought to date back to the Middle Ages. Similar castle structures, which are thought to have been built for protection, communication and to accommodate sufficient military forces, can also be seen in Trabzon and Giresun in the Eastern Black Sea Region. They have a strategic location in terms of settlement. Among these castles, Ciha Castle in Yücehisar Village of Pazar District is a small building and has a watchtower in the middle. Maiden’s Castle, also located on a small island in Pazar, differs from these structures in that it does not have a tower. Zil Kale, built at a point overlooking the Fırtına Valley in Çamlıhemşin, is the largest castle in the city after Rize Castle. Kale-i Bala, also located in the Tatos Passage of Çamlıhemşin District, is a castle with many installations inside. Rize Castle, located in the city center, and Zil Castle, located on the borders of Çamlıhemşin district, are the most frequently visited castles.

It is very easy to reach. It is very tidy, spotlessly clean, the staff is very attentive and friendly. Prices were quite good compared to Trabzon. When they learned that we were guests, they offered us corn bread and tea. Kuymak and pickles were very delicious. I suggest you don't waste your time on the terrace with tea glasses, go directly here. The location and view are much better. We liked it very much.

It has a view of the entire Rize. You can go for the view.
